Most of us are already aware of the fact that we, Indians, have a culture of innovation from ancient
times. From inventing zero to
wireless technology of modern times, some astonishing facts were unleashed by
Indian Scientists. As India celebrates its 68th Republic Day; let us look back at ‘Made in India’ inventions and discoveries that will make every Indian proud.
Here I’m picking up five innovative inventions and discoveries
that have an Indian connection. The inventions that we are in touch with our day to day life & will make you go “OMG! I LOVE MY INDIA”

1. Flush Toilets:
Yes, India invented flush toilets. The Harappa and Indus valley civilizations had flush toilets thousands of years ago. They even had a sewage system that is said to be unparalleled. From the ruins that the archaeology department has discovered, there existed a sophisticated sewage mechanism in most houses. Their civilization had sanitary functions like the ones that no one could imagine existed at that time.
2. Buttons:
Buttons made from seashell were used in the Indus Valley Civilization for ornamental purposes rather than for fastening. Some buttons were carved into geometric shapes and had holes pierced into them so that they could be attached to clothing with thread.
3. Universal Serial Bus or USB:
USB is the most widely used gadget in the world, used by around 10 billion people. Ajay Bhatt who is an Indian- American architect, is the creator of USB. But sadly, he still remains a very lesser known personality when we talk about tech inventions despite having invented something as important as the USB.
4. Shampoo:
Yes! The shampoo you use for your hair was invented in India. In fact, the word shampoo itself is derived from the Hindi word chÄmpo. A variety of herbs and their extracts were used as shampoos since ancient times.
5. RULERS:
Rulers, which consists of measuring units, inches, and centimeters, were first discovered in Indus Valley Civilization. Made of ivory, the rulers found during excavation, reveal the amazing accuracy of decimal subdivisions on it.
